Sloan appointed to NC Underground Damage Prevention Review Board

Danny Sloan of Iredell Water Corporation, located in Statesville, NC, has been appointed by Governor Pat McCrory to serve on the Underground Damage Prevention Review Board as a representative of a rural water system per NC General Statute 87-129(a)(12). The Underground Damage Prevention Review Board was established to review reports of alleged violations of Underground Utility Safety and Damage Prevention Act (Article 8A of NCGS 87) and members of this Board are appointed by the Governor. The Act was established to protect the citizens and workforce of North Carolina from the dangers inherent in the excavating or demolishing in areas where underground lines, systems, or infrastructure are buried beneath the surface of the ground, and it is necessary to protect from costly damage underground facilities used for producing, storing, conveying, transmitting, or distributing communication, electricity, gas, petroleum, petroleum products, hazardous liquids, water, steam or sewage. The Underground Utility Safety and Damage Prevention Act was signed by Governor McCrory on August 23rd, 2013 and became effective October 1st, 2014.

This is Mr. Sloan’s second appointment by the Governor’s Office to a North Carolina State Board. Mr. Sloan was first appointed to a 3 year term by Governor Beverly Perdue on August 19th, 2010 to the NC Water Treatment Facility Operators Certification Board. He was reappointed by Governor Pat McCrory to the NCWTFOCB on October 22nd, 2013 for another 3 year term. He now serves as Chairman of the Certification Board.

Mr. Sloan currently is an Assistant Manager of Iredell Water Corporation. He is in his 18th year with the Corporation. He also is a member of the NC Waterworks Operator Association and NC Rural Water Association. Within NC Rural Water Association he has served on the Legislative & Regulatory Committee and currently serves on the Association’s Long Range Planning Committee.
