Emergency Water Outage Notice Sullivan Farms & Old Statesville Developments
December 08, 2025
Updated: 8:50 am
Our crews are currently working on an emergency water main repair due to an unexpected water main break in the Sullivan Farm Development off of James Farm Rd. in Statesville. A 12 inch water main ruptured at approximatly 6:50 am this morning located on Wheeler Dr. and the leak has now been isolated.
Because of the size of water main and high flows due to the main break. Customers in the following areas may experience low water pressure, dingy water, and /or temporary loss of water service during repair or flushing:
- Sullivan Farms Development, Old Statesville Development, James Farm Rd, Jane Sowers Rd, Hwy 21/Turnersburg Hwy, Shoemaker Dr., Whites Farm Rd. Crawford Rd and any side roads in these areas.
We anticipate a time frame of 4 to 5 hours for the repair and flushing process at this time.
If you notice discolored or milky water after service is restored, please flush the cold water only from a bathtub faucet for several minutes. If discoloration persists, contact our office at 704-876-0672. For after-hours assistance, please call 704-876-0673.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding as we work to resolve the issue promptly.
Why is the Water Discolored?
Discolored water is typically caused by naturally occurring minerals, such as iron and manganese, that are present in the water system. These minerals can accumulate in water mains over time and may become dislodged during activities which cause high velocity flows of water in the distribution system such as large water main breaks or use of hydrants.
Is It Safe to Use?
While discolored water may appear unappealing, it does not pose a health risk. The presence of iron and manganese in the water is harmless, and the discoloration is purely aesthetic.
What Should You Do?
If you notice discolored water:
- Run the cold water only from a faucet (preferably in a bathtub) for several minutes to flush your internal plumbing system.
- Avoid using hot water during this time, as it may draw discolored water into your water heater tank.If dingy water is drawn into the hot water tank it could persit for several days until the hot water tank is flushed or all the water is cycled through.
