Iredell Water Launches Cross-Connection Control Program to Add Protections for Drinking Water
September 18, 2026
Statesville, NC – September 18, 2026: Iredell Water is proud to announce the launch of a new, comprehensive cross-connection control program to add protections for the communities drinking water throughout its service area. Created with the support of HydroCorp, a leader for over 40 years in water safety and compliance, the program will encompass residential, commercial, and industrial properties to add security for the entire system's water quality.
Over the years, Iredell Water Corporation adopted policies and procedures related to backflow and cross-connections which include conducting on-site cross-connection control surveys. Later this month, HydroCorp will begin conducting on-site surveys of industrial, commercial, and agricultural customers, along with customers with in-ground irrigation systems, to identify unprotected cross-connections and provide recommendations to improve backflow prevention measures.
“By implementing this program, we can continue to ensure that our water system and every connection throughout our community is protected,” says Danny Sloan, CEO of Iredell Water. “Not only will this help us keep track of potentially hazardous cross-connections, but we can also make sure every customer is properly informed of our efforts to maintain safe drinking water."
The Corporation’s water safety and compliance activities will now include:
- A cross-connection control plan based on best practices: The plan, customized to Iredell Water, is compliant with federal requirements, NC DEQ regulations, and industry standards. From initial surveys to backflow prevention techniques, Iredell Water will be on the cutting edge of drinking water safety.
- On-site surveys: Surveys will detect backflow hazards and ensure the proper installation of any backflow preventers across the community as required by federal and state regulations.
- Comprehensive activity and compliance reporting: Iredell Water will use the latest cloud-based technology to track program activities, including surveys, and ensure regulatory compliance. There will also be a dedicated website for backflow testers to submit annual testing of backflow devices.
- Public education initiatives: Everyone plays a role in protecting Iredell Water’s water system. A core aspect of cross-connection control is helping residents and businesses understand the risk of backflow and how to keep their buildings compliant.
Iredell Water partnered with HydroCorp to ensure best practices and minimize disruption and cost to our members. Industrial, commercial, and agricultural customers will be the first to be notified and will receive advance notice of any onsite surveys. A member of HydroCorp’s team of trained and certified technicians will complete the survey efficiently and professionally.
