Backflow Prevention & Cross-Connection Program

Protecting Our Public Water Supply

Iredell Water Corporation (IWC) has implemented our Cross-Connection Control Program to help protect the public drinking water system from potential contamination caused by backflow and cross-connections.

North Carolina regulations require public water systems to maintain appropriate cross-connection and backflow protection. IWC's Cross-Connection Control Policy and Plan establish the requirements for customers served by IWC.

Per IWC Policy all new non-residential services must have an approved Reduced Pressure Assembly installed immediately downstream of the service meter. All new in-ground irrigation systems on lots platted and recorded or new homes constructed after July 1, 2009 must also have a separate irrigation meter per N.C.G.S. § 143-355.4.

Backflow devices must be tested and submitted annually by a certified North Carolina Backflow Cross Connection Tester. Results of test must be submitted through HydroSoft's website. No Paper, Email or Fax copies will be accepted.

HydroCorp Inspections and Program Administration

Iredell Water Corporation has contracted with HydroCorp, a company specializing in cross-connection control and backflow prevention programs, to assist IWC with facility inspections, backflow prevention compliance, testing records, customer notifications, and other portions of the program.

Customers who are scheduled for an inspection will receive notification with instructions from HydroCorp.

HydroCorp inspectors working on behalf of IWC carry identification and will identify themselves when arriving at a property.

There is no charge to the customer for the initial HydroCorp inspection. If an inspection identifies a condition requiring the installation, repair, replacement, or testing of a backflow prevention assembly, those costs are the responsibility of the property owner in accordance with IWC's Cross-Connection Control Policy and Plan. HydroCorp will not be providing testing of existing or future installed backflow assemblies.

Not all customers will be contacted at the same time. Inspections and compliance activities may be conducted in phases as the program is implemented.
